Recently, my friend Corey Meehan joined his mother Betty on the other side. So for his life celebration, I took an old photo of them which was very low-resolution, and used a new AI tool and Photoshop to enlarge and enhance the image. I made prints of this photo and donated them to the family for the auction. They were used to raise funds for his children.
The AI software I used is https://letsenhance.io/ Their website says “Let’s Enhance is an automated AI image upscaler and fixer. It uses Super Resolution technology based on Deep Convolutional Neural Networks along with other machine learning techs. A few years ago, it was impossible to dramatically increase photo size without losing quality. Your best option in Photoshop’s Bicubic Interpolation just made your picture blurry. This is not true in the case of Neural Networks and AI. Our ML-powered application is trained on a huge dataset of pictures, so it can add extra details and pixels to photos, much better than traditional software.”
I used AI to enlarge the image, color correct, and enhance the details of the photo. Then I used Photoshop to remove the background, remove the man who was hugging Betty in the photo, and add a sunset background. Overall I am happy with the result and I am excited to use this software for some of the photos of my paintings that I would love to enlarge. Many of my paintings only have low-resolution photos. I plan to resize them so that I can make larger prints.
